- Routine office visits with URI providers. (The student will not be billed for the office visit; however we do bill some insurance companies and accept their reimbursement.)
- Ambulance/Emergency Transport Services (by URIEMS).

- The cost of most medical procedures and some medical supplies.
- You are eligible for Health Services regardless of your type of insurance coverage.
My insurance company requires a referral. Does the billing staff obtain referrals on my behalf?
The billing staff will assist with obtaining a referral if requested by the patient. Health Services has students with a magnitude of different insurance policies. Therefore, the insured needs to be aware of their policy benefits in order to receive maximum reimbursement for chargeable services performed at our facility.
Why did I receive a bill when I have insurance?
Health Services directly bills insurance companies that we have a contract with. We courtesy bill other commercial insurance companies at the request of the student.
You received a bill for one or more of the following reasons:
- Your initial claim was billed to your insurance company and not paid for various reasons (i.e., not covered under policy, deductible, co-pay, lack of referral, gap in enrollment, only covered when rendered by the primary care physician, etc.)
- Your insurance company is not one that we directly bill to.
- The bill is for pharmacy or vaccination charges that are not billed to insurance.
- You set up a personal account that wasn't paid in time.
- Incorrect insurance information on file with our office.
- You had an athletic injury that is not covered under school insurance. It is your responsibility to submit directly to insurance carrier for the athletic department.
- You did not pay the Health Service fee.
I had a vaccination at Health Services, why did I receive the bill and not my insurance company?
Vaccinations are considered pharmacy charges. Currently, our pharmacy does not bill to or participate with any insurance companies. If your policy covers vaccinations, submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement. Vaccines are normally billed at our cost.
Why did I get a bill for my prescription?
URI Health Services Pharmacy does not bill to or participate with any insurance companies. Students who have paid the Health Services fee may receive over the counter medicines and some acute care prescriptions at no charge. In some cases there is a $5.00/$25.00 co-pay for prescriptions for acute care. Medications for chronic conditions are offered at 50% of our cost. Oral contraceptives are priced at $10.00 & up per cycle.

What is a sanction and why do I have one?
When an account remains outstanding for a designated period of time without payment in full or an approved payment plan in place the account will be sanctioned with Enrollment Services. The sanction will prevent a student from receiving transcripts and in some cases it will block you from registering for classes.
I want to come to Health Services but I do not want a bill sent home or to my insurance company. Is there an alternative?
Yes. You can ask a Billing Representative to set up a "personal" account. There are no bills generated for a personal account. You are given 30 days to pay your account or set up a payment plan with the billing department if you require additional time.
Will my insurance cover my visit at Health Services?
Routine office visits are included in your Health Service fee. Laboratory testing, x-rays, and other billable items are covered under some policies. Please refer to your policy to determine your covered benefits.
