THE DEADLINE TO WAIVE FALL 2011 and SPRING 2012 INSURANCE CHARGE HAS PASSED. Please contact the insurance office regarding an insurance petition if you feel you have a valid reason for the removal of the insurance fee.

Fall 2012 Insurance Information

Our Fall 2012 Insurance Waiver will open on July 1, 2012. Please revisit this site on or after that date to file your electronic waiver. At the time of submission you will need the following:

  • Student ID Number
  • Current Health Insurance Card including Policy and Group Number
  • Subscribers Name, Date of Birth, and Relationship

You will receive an insurance mailing this summer explaining the student health insurance policy. The waiver deadline is October 1, 2012.

2012 Health Care Reform Implications 2014

The Final Rule for Student Health Insurance Coverage was released in the Federal Register on March 12, 2012 with an effective date of April 20, 2012. This rule and other Health Care Reform requirements will impact University sponsored Student Health plans and operation of the Student Health Centers nationwide. We are working closely with our professional staff, national association, and business partners to continue providing quality and affordable care to the student community.

The Student Health Insurance rates for 2012-2013 policy year should be available shortly and will be displayed on this site.

2011/2012 Injury / Sickness Insurance:

URI Health Services has selected University Health Plans, Inc. (www.universityhealthplans.com) as a leading benefit brokerage/consulting firm to service the University sponsored health insurance plan beginning September 1, 2011 (August 15, 2011 for International Students). Nationwide Life Insurance Company has underwritten the plan and claims will be administered by Consolidated Health Plans (www.consolidatedhealthplan.com).

The First Health Network www.firsthealth.com will be the preferred provider network.

The rates for the Student Accident/Injury Insurance Plan are:

Spouse $3,285* $2,084**
Child(ren) $2,480* $1,578**

*This amount covers domestic students\dependants from 9/1/2012 through 8/31/2013. International students are covered 8/15/2012 through 8/14/2013.

**This amount covers domestic students\dependants from 1/1/2013 through 8/31/2013. International students are covered 1/1/2013 through 8/14/2013.

All new students should expect a mailing early summer with insurance information. Should you have comparable coverage; the Accident/Sickness Insurance charge can be waived. The waiver site will open around July 1, 2012 and you will find the link at this site www.health.uri.edu. An insurance waiver is required to be submitted annually.

Pharmacy

The school insurance has no pharmacy benefits. The pharmacy is funded by the Health Service Fee. Students who have paid the Health Service Fee are eligible to have prescriptions filled and receive over-the-counter medicines at the pharmacy. The pharmacy does not participate in third party payment plans.
